PHYLAX — Part 1
An original cinematic short film created to demonstrate how AI can be integrated into a professional production workflow, combining generative imagery, AI video, sound, music and traditional creative direction to achieve a consistent, high-quality cinematic result.
What needed to change.
The goal of Phylax — Part 1 was to test how effectively AI could be used to create a complete cinematic short film while maintaining professional standards of visual quality, continuity and creative control.
The biggest challenge was consistency. AI can generate impressive individual images or clips, but creating a coherent film requires characters, costumes, environments, lighting, movement and camera direction to remain believable from shot to shot. The project therefore focused on overcoming the unpredictability of generative video while building a workflow that could produce a unified cinematic result.
Finding the right direction.
Levlan developed a hybrid production workflow combining AI generation, human creative direction and traditional post-production.
Rather than relying on automated generation, each scene was designed as an individual cinematic shot. Character references, environments, framing, camera angles, movement and visual style were carefully controlled throughout production.
Generated material was reviewed, refined and regenerated where necessary, allowing AI to function as part of a structured filmmaking process rather than replacing creative decision-making.

By combining detailed creative direction, controlled reference material, iterative generation and conventional post-production, Levlan developed a repeatable workflow capable of producing complex cinematic sequences with a high level of visual consistency.
